Shel Silverstein


Silverstein was born September 25th 1930 in Chicago. He liked to draw and write as a child. He joined the army and drew cartoons for the military newspaper. In 1956 he became nationally famous as he began to draw cartoons for playboy. In 1963 Silverstein started to write and illustrate children books. In 1974 Silverstein published Where the Sidewalk Ends, which has come to be his most popular book. During the 80’s Silverstein
Wrote adult plays. His most successful play was the Lady or the Tiger Show. Silverstein died in 1999 due to a heart attack. His last book, Runny Babbit a Billy Sook, was published in 2005.
